What is HealthyStart™?
An all natural, non-invasive treatment to improve breathing and straighten teeth.
HealthyStart is a series of uniquely designed oral appliances, typically worn while your child sleeps, which gently position and promote proper growth and development of the jaw and teeth. As these areas develop more fully using HealthyStart, your child’s airway expands to let them breathe properly through their nose. As breathing improves, many of the symptoms listed above simply disappear.
Using HealthyStart will naturally straighten teeth and can actually prevent the need for braces. So not only does it help create healthier, happier kids who can breathe better, it also prevents one of life’s more costly and uncomfortable dental treatments – braces. Best of all, early treatment with HealthyStart creates beautiful smiles that will never relapse.
HealthyStart combined with Wanlass Dental’s expertise has the power to impact your child’s health in so many positive ways. As a parent, you owe it to your child to explore the possibilities.
More Than a Beautiful Smile
Sleep Disordered Breathing is an all-inclusive term for breathing difficulties that range from mild snoring all the way to severe airway obstruction during sleep. When your child’s breathing is disrupted, their body sees the disruption much like choking. Their heart rate slows, which raises blood pressure, arouses the brain, and ultimately disrupts their sleep. Up to now, there have been very few answers to treating this issue. HealthyStart could be the alternative to medications you're looking for.
How it Works
HealthyStart is oral appliance therapy that promotes nasal breathing as it straightens teeth, widens the dental arches, and helps the jaw develop properly regularly eliminating childhood health issues such as ADD/ADHD, daytime drowsiness, bedwetting, snoring, and nightmares.
FAQ's About HealthyStart
How does HealthyStart™ work?
Specially made flexible trays train jaw muscles and encourage natural growth while guiding teeth into proper position.
Will my child need braces after HealthyStart?
Generally no. When there is more room in the mouth, it's easier to guide teeth into the proper position. Unlike braces, the HealthyStart appliance isn't worn all day. Because it's removable, you determine when to wear it.
So, is HealthyStart an oral sleep appliance?
No. However, the flexible trays encourage your child to breathe through the nose and expand their airway to reduce the likelihood of sleep disordered breathing.
Is HealthyStart covered by my insurance?
Generally yes! Since many dental insurance plans have an orthodontic benefit. – We'll gladly check with your insurance to find out what your estimated out-of-pocket expenses will be.
Is my child too old or too young for HealthyStart?
HealthyStart works best for children ages 4 to 10 years old, but other HealthyStart options are available for ages 11 to adult. Since HealthyStart helps to guide the teeth as they come in, the ideal age is 6 to 8 years old.
How long does my child need to wear the appliance?
The answer varies with each unique case. Most patients complete treatment within about two years, since that’s how long it normally takes for children to lose baby teeth and for adult teeth to come in. Treatment may consist of simply wearing a comfortable mouthpiece while sleeping to open their airway, correct their bite, and straighten their teeth.
Will my child need to wear retainers?
When treatment is completed at an early age, generally retainers are not needed to keep the new straight smile. Once their teeth are straight, they'll stay that way for life. For teens and adults, the appliance can be worn a couple nights per week to maintain straight teeth.
